Car Starts But Wont Stay Running Unless Foot Is On Gas
I can't get the car to start unless i hammer on the gas pedal. Then slowly back it off.
Very good info.i replaced a timing belt on a 1997 avalon.afterward car starts runs for a minute or two then dies.it would not start immediately after.next day it would start normally and then dies suddenly about a minute or two after start.before replacing timing belt car was running great.changing timing belt was preventative maintenance.

A coil or cable in the system is probably leaking the spark to ground. It keeps stalling/dying out on me unless i keep my foot on the gas, as soon as i let off the gas and the rpm's get low it dies.
The fuel injection system does nothing until the engine is turning (starting or running), so pressing the pedal before you start will make no difference. A tach is gonna make your life easier to. It could be the injectors or the fuel pump pressure, it could be the air intake, vacuum leak, etc.
The first place i would start is looking for vacuum leaks. Car wont stay running unless foot is on the gas. And you will notice that car starts but won’t stay running unless the foot is on gas.

The computer simply feeds a little extra gas through the fuel injectors to start the engine. Then, when it does start, i have to keep giving it gas for a couple minutes because if i just let it idle the engine dies. Videos you watch may be added to.
Instead, my camry rev's to 1000 while the key is in the starter position (turned past normal resting position while turning the car on) then immediately drops to 600 rpm or less and if i don't give it gas it dies or runs very rough. Usually what happens is you start the car cold and it wont stay running unless you hold your foot on the gas until the engine warms up. Car starts but won't stay running, rpm up and down !
My car was diagnosed as having a bad fuel pump. It will idle after awhile of keeping my foot on the gas but it will go dead when i put it in drive or reverse. At first it did this once in a while and i was able to fix it by disconnecting the battery and it seemed to run fine for a while.
It hasn't ran right since and bubbles were in the fuel. Depending on whether the engine is hot or cold, there are a couple different reasons why a car might start with no problem but stall shortly afterwards. But i made it to my destination about 30 more min of highway driving without anymore problems. Withoutknowing if the check engine light is on it could be a variety of things including but not limited to the o2 sensor, throttle positioning sensor, and the maf and map sensors. If the car stalls even when the engine is warm, the cause is likely a faulty electric fuel pump.
A fault in fuel supply (plugged filter, injectors, etc.); I have a 1996 jeep grand cherokee limted (5.2l v8) and if i dont keep my foot on the gas the rpms immediately drop to zero and the whole car dies. This is one that will take a little time to diagnose.

A lot of times it will be a dry rotted hose. The problem started after i ran out of gas. The ect (engine coolant temperature) sensor is here to send information about the engine’s temperature to the ecu to adjust the mixture of air and fuel.
My gauge doesn't work but i was certain i had enough in it and was suprised when i sucked the entire fuel line dry. Recently i ran out of gas and didn't know it.
